Songs From The Shows (RGFDCD006)

Album CoverAt long last, the fabled ‘Songs From The Shows’ by The Albion Band has re-appeared ! Previously released on two full price single CDs ('Songs From The Shows' and 'Songs From The Shows Vol.2') which have been unavailable for several years, its rebirth is as a mid-price double CD, which has been digitally remastered and boasts a totally new sleeve with more accurate and comprehensible information than on the original single CDs: this time, it even lists the track that was always included on the second CD, but was never previously identified !

With 42 tracks of both concert and studio recordings from a variety of sources: TV shows (1977's 'Here We Come A-Wassailing' and 1988's 'The Wild Side Of Town'), stage shows ('The Albion Band Christmas Shows' from 1984 - 1986, and 'Lark Rise', an adaptation of Flora Thompson's 'Lark Rise To Candleford'), radio (1978's 'Albion River Hymn'), studio recordings ('An Easter Garland' from 1984/85) and a film (1989's 'Key To The North'), 'Songs From The Shows' includes material from the period 1977 - 1989, performed by a bewildering number of line-ups of the legendary Albion Band, all led by the John Mayall of British folk/rock, the extraordinary Ashley Hutchings.

Among the other noted musicians who appear on 'Songs For The Shows' are Fairport Convention's Simon Nicol and Ric Sanders, Michael Gregory, John Tams and Graeme Taylor (Home Service), Phil Beer (Show Of Hands) and two of Britain's foremost chanteuses, Cathy Lesurf and June Tabor, and among those whose work is interpreted are Chris Baines, Chuck Berry, John Clare, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Jerome K. Jerome, Spike Milligan, Joni Mitchell and Dylan Thomas. Playing time of the two CDs exceeds one hour, 45 minutes, and with remastering by Denis Blackham at Country Masters, and a redesigned 8 page booket, as well as a substantial price reduction from the two long-deleted original single CDs, this is the ultimate edition of a key album in the long and glorious history of The Albion Band.
